UH Archaeology Course at Lyon Arboretum

Archaeology Course at Lyon Arboretum

In Fall we will be continuing the archaeological inventory survey at Lyon Arboretum in the back of Manoa valley, and offering Anthropology course credit for interested students (both undergraduate and graduate).

The survey was started in January and is headed by Dr. Jim Bayman, Adam Lauer and Kelley Esh. It’s a beautiful area and the archaeology up there has never before been comprehensively recorded, so this is an interesting and important survey. In addition to students receiving course credit, we also invite community volunteers, and public outreach is an important aspect of this project. We’re planning on the course being taught primarily on Sundays (9am-4pm). This a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in Hawaiian archaeology and/or public outreach to get involved, gain experience in archaeological survey techniques, and to get course credit at the same time.

Please contact Dr. Bayman (jbayman@hawaii.edu) if you’re interested in participating.

Last Day!! Thank you lunch!

This Sunday (May 6) is our last day working at Lyon for the semester. We’ll be working 9am until 1pm and then having lunch (we’re getting sandwiches and pita w/ hummus from Volcano Joe’s, and we’ll have drinks and snacks too). We hope to see you all there. Over summer please check this site occasionally – we’ll be posting our plans for next semester as well as some of our results from this semester.

Mahalo nui loa!

Students

Hi 399 students (and anybody else interested in helping put together the inventory survey report):

You can post comments to each other here about dates to meet, good references, etc. I’ll check the comments to give any feedback if you have questions, too.
